Some are personal narratives; some are impersonal accounts. I have seen these stories change minds, illuminating an idea in a way that really takes hold of a person and stays with them. The generic conventions of scholarly writing mean that these stories rarely reach an audience beyond other scholars, except when students must read them for class or for their student-edited journals. The aim of “Scholars Live” is to offer potent stories from scholarly work to a broader audience.
